On 17.08.2015 our integrational kindergarten Kohlgartenstraße opened its doors. More than 150 children with 26 different nationalities, such as Polish, Romanian, Russian, Vietnamese or Arabic, are already part of the institution.
The work in the Kita Kohlgartenstraße is based on a child-oriented education – the current offers are adapted individually to the wishes and interests of the children. Through the open work the children always have the choice, in which of the many projects and offers they want to participate.
Various functional areas are available in the facility, for example music and theater room, the exercise room, the experiment room, the play room, the reading and relaxation room, the studio and a children’s kitchen. The children have also a big garden to explore and a ”natural theater” in which our children eagerly watch the performances of the different artists.
But there is also plenty to do for our children outside our campsite. During walks and excursions, the little ones learn how to behave on the road and the nature is explored and experienced. In this way we can experience with our children historical, traditional and, above all, cultural backgrounds of our immediate society and the coexistence of different nationalities.
The volunteer will be integrated into the Kindergarten’s team and into everyday life of the kindergarten
This means that the volunteer will make plans with the other teachers and will then carry out these projects with the children. This will be in addition to the usual routine of eating together, bedtimes and other standard educational practices.
The volunteer has the following service and learning opportunities:
– Getting to know structure and working methods of the association
– Getting to know the work of the support network
– Getting to know the routine of a day care center
– Working as a team
– Getting to know cultural offerings in Leipzig
– Producing pieces for various media channels
The following points are of importance for the selection of the volunteers:
– Interest in work with children
– Teamwork and interpersonal skills
– Interest in learning German and in learning about Leipzig and its surroundings
We are open to all young people who search for an EVS-placement. We have no special preferences regarding the sending organization. When we recieve and application, it will be examined and tested. Candidates will be assigned to the various positions according to their characteristics and qualifications. During a telephone interview, or (if possible) a personal interview, both sides will get to know each other, answer questions and come to a decision.
